Join Us in Long Beach, Mississippi

           January 28-February 3, 2007

Housing authorities across the country have come to the aid of their colleageus in the Gulf in many ways since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit in August and September of 2005.

While much has been done over the last year, more remains and the needs are extensive.  NAHRO, Fannie Mae and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) have partnered to create an opportunity for us to continue to assist our colleagues in a very concrete way.

From January 28 - February 3, 2007, eighty volunteers will work in Long Beach, Mississippi to replace the roofs on 22 public housing units that today still have blue tarps covering them.

With 19,000 members, we have identified many ways that NAHRO associates can participate in this project:

Volunteer - click here for more information on the many jobs we need filled and how you can be one of the 80 folks on the ground

Contribute - individuals and agencies can contribute in a number of ways, from cash subsidies to airline miles. Click here for more information

Sponsor - agencies, partners, regions and chapters are encouraged to sponsor the many needs of the volunteers while they are on the ground, from lunches to buses.  Click here for more information

We are excited to be able to coordinate this effort, and welcome your questions and suggestions. Please contact Dionne Roberts at droberts@nahro.org for additional information on this effort.
